CSBA calls for parity in balancing labor issues between the needs of the employee and the employer. Targeted issues are independent contractor rules and definitions, living, prevailing and minimum wages, flex work plans including overtime, and workplace issues of disabilities, ergonomics, family leave, frivolous lawsuits and punitive employer laws, etc.

AB 10 – Alejo: This bill would increase the minimum wage, as of January 1, 2012, to nothing less than $8.50 per hour. Oppose
AB 22 - Mendoza: Prohibits an employer, with the exception of certain financial institutions, from obtaining a consumer credit report for employment purposes unless the information is (1) substantially job-related, (2) the position of the person for which the person is sought is a position in the state Department of Justice, a managerial position, a position in a city, county, that of law enforcement position, or a position for which the information contained in the report is required to be disclosed by law or to be obtained by the employer. Oppose
AB 59, AB 325, AB 592: Employee is entitled to protected leave pursuant to the Family Rights Act by (1) permitting an employee to take protected leave to care for his or her independent adult child suffering from a serious health condition, (2) expanding the definition of "parent" to include an employee's parent-in law, and (3) permitting an employee to take leave to care for a seriously ill grandparent, sibling, grandchild, or domestic partner. Oppose
AB 196 – Carter: Authorizes an employer to deposit an employee's wages or advance on wages in an industrial bank or a trust company. Authorizes employer to furnish his or her employees with an accurate itemized statement electronically. Support
AB 197 – Monning: Increases the amount of liquidated damages that may be awarded to an employee to twice the amount of the wages unlawfully unpaid, plus interest. Oppose
AB 400 – Ma: Provides that an employee who works in California for 7 or more days in a calendar year is entitled to paid sick days, as defined, which shall be accrued at a rate of no less than one hour for every 30 hours worked. Oppose
AB 830, SB 367, SB 378: Permits an employee employed by an employer with 25 or less employees to request an employee-selected flexible work schedule providing for workdays up to 10 hours per day within a 40-hour workweek. Allows the employer to implement this schedule without any obligation to pay overtime compensation. Support
SB 104 – Steinberg: Extends the existing prohibitions and penalties to employers who engage in unfair labor practices with regard to a majority signup election. Oppose
SB 316, SB 319, SB 389: Meal periods: exemption: transportation industry. Adds employees employed in the transportation industry from to SB 135, which prohibits employers from requiring an employee to work more than 5 hours per day w/out providing a meal period. Support
SB 727 - Bellyhill: Removes "law prohibts the grant of a petition while the injured worker is pursuing a rehabilitation plan" from the existing law. Support
SB 883 – Correa: Permits an employer to raise as an affirmative defense that, at the time of an alleged violation, the employer was acting in good faith and in compliance with or reliance upon an applicable employment statute or regulation. Support
